TACS team gallop towards safer roads
In the run up to World Safety week, the TACS team have joined forces with the British Horse Society (BHS) to deliver a TACS demonstration using one of our vehicles at the society’s recent British Riding School National Competition. Over the last few months DHL has forged relationships with the BHS to raise awareness about riders and horses who also vulnerable road users and so this was the perfect opportunity for DHL to help with the promotion of road safety. Our demonstrators Rob Long (Mothercare) and Dan Taylor and Viktorija Lebedevaite (Sainsbury’s) helped to support the TACS event held at Warwickshire College, Moreton Morrell, and although this wasn’t a standard TAC’s demonstration the vehicle was set up so that it could be used to conduct some safety conversations including topics such as where the blind spots can be found on trucks. There were several different riding schools from all over the country in attendance with around 100 competitors of all age groups and horses of different sizes. Not only were there competitors around but also fathers, mothers and other family members who normally drive vehicles pulling horse boxes or trailers to the events and so there they were keen to learn more about the DHL vehicle with some taking the opportunity to get inside the cab. Most of the feedback from the competitors was about the size of the vehicle and what they could and couldn’t see from inside the cab. One visitor commented “I am a keen cyclist and I’ve come away from today’s demonstration with a greater understanding of why it’s important for HGV drivers and cyclists to be aware of each other on the roads”
